Monday evening we closed Big Ed’s Pizza in
Jeff and Denise arrived a little later than planned, so since we had to be up and dressed for hiking by 8 AM, we turned in fairly early Monday night.
I picked Jeff up at 8:15 and headed for the Cracker Barrel in
The temperature and humidity was perfect and we enjoyed a 4 mile round trip hike, going from 1900 to 2500 feet in elevation. It is a steady gradual climb along a beautiful mountain creek filled with boulders and green moss. I showed Jeff where I slipped and fell in back in May. He and Ron wanted me to reenact the event so they could get shots, but I passed!
After the hike, we went back to Turkey Creek in
Then it was back to my house and the screened porch for music, cigars, beer, and lots of conversation. This lasted to almost midnight, but since we had to be up again at 8 AM to meet Ron for a canoe trip, we said goodnight and turned in.
I’ll post shots of the canoe trip later.
We’re having a ball! We’ll be back with you all soon.

I am SO jealous! I hope you'll take me hiking when I finally visit, Mushy...
And every time I see a picture of Hairy beside "normal-sized" people, I am in awe. Again.
Man, I'd settle for the crust on that pizza for a meal!
And, breakfast, too? What the hell is that?
I have two meals---lunch, and "other"...!
Seeing the pics and reading your post is almost as good as being there. Looking forward to more pics and stories.
Howdy to FHB and the others from an Old Soldier in Houston.
Glad to see J and D made it safe and sound....smoked that Whiskey dipped Cee-Gar that Jeff laid on me, and tell him it was a nice hour long mild smoke.
Man, sounds like retirement is hard work!! *L* Great that all of ya'll can be together!
Fat & D are good peeps, ain't they?
Y'all have fun!
Lov'em...they just left going for a long night's sleep. Tomorrow, after a Wild Wings run, they plan on leaving for Memphis - they have a date with "the King," before going on home.
and a good time was had by all. it sounds like a great hike, not easy, been there did that.
Hmph. You were in Oak Ridge, at Big Eds, 2 minutes from my house, from my job and still.... didn't call.
I'm gonna go cry now.
Had no idea...we're going to Wild Wings at 11:30 today!
Retirement sure sounds like it's a hard life. That pizza looks mighty tasty.
You truly do have a magnificent bunch of times with your friends, Mushy. You're very blessed, indeed. Good for you!
Good times and good folks. It was all a huge blast. The hike was beautiful and the food and beer were great and porch time, with great music and cigar smoke wafting through, is the perfect end to the day. Great times my brutha. Can't wait to come back again.
