MUSHY'S MOOCHINGS: THE TREE HOUSE

THE TREE HOUSE

As Jeff Wilson can attest, our screened porch is a “tree house” to us. Judy probably spends more time out there than I do, but she is more allergy resistant!

However, we both love napping, reading, and watching the wildlife from that lofty perch. We see rabbits, squirrels, owls, hawks, and deer from our hidden vantage point. We also love watching the seasons change from there. It won’t be long before the leaves will begin to change and the colors reflecting off the water will dazzle us once again.

When Jeff or my brother-in-laws come over, we indulge in our favorite libation and listen to rock/blues music I have piped out there from my computer. There’s nothing like it to sooth the soul, and I often took advantage of the solitude on Friday evenings when I worked. Nothing could relax me more and I did it regardless of the temperature! I loved to bundle up, light a cigar, and sip a couple of hours away.

I don’t do it as much since retiring, but we do often have breakfast out there, and relax with a good book. As soon as this humidity slides on away for the year, I’ll be back out there. Beats TV anytime!

Today I captured some new wildflower shots, a dragonfly, and my “mud bug” towers in the backyard. There are several more photos, larger sizes at Flickr!

Oh, man, you just made me sad here. The house we had previous to our current one had a porch that sat up in the trees like that. It was such a great place to sit and have a nice cool drink while listening to a ballgame on the radio. Lucky you!

Man, I would live on that porch. That sounds perfect, just perfect.

How many times have you just sat there in total quiet darkness, and surprised yourself at all the "activity" that goes on after the sun goes down?

If you haven't already, invest in a set of night-vision binocs, with infra-red! I bought a set years ago, and the dust never settles on 'em!

Or even a monocular-version. They can be had for incredibly-cheap prices, from surplus outlets.

You'd never imagine all the FUN you'd miss, without one or the other! Just don't be lookin' at the moon, unless you like seein' SUNSPOTS for the next few hours following...!

I envy you your treehouse, but not your humidity...

You should try a dry summertime evening with no mosquitoes on a redwood deck!

Oh I'd love a set of those Bruno!

Scott...it gets nice here too late or early in the year, but the screen works great. However, sharing a deck with you or any of my buds on here would be wonderful.

Thus far, Jeff is the only one to come by.

I'm tellin' ya, it's like those cool treehouses in those old Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan flicks. I always thought it would be cool to live in one of those when I was a kid. Sittin' there, lookin' out at the water and the beautiful nature, it's the closest thing I can imagine to that childhood dream.

One of these days...

And those are beautiful shots. You're really good at those close-ups of flowers.

Thanks Jeff...I keep practicing, but I'm not satisfied with them. I need to get a good tripod...I think.

beautiful. i don't think i've seen the "mud bug" towers around here. what are they? (i mean besides "mud bugs")

They are vent holes for the crayfish. The make long tube (a network of tunnels) homes under the ground near water. They probably come out through those holes at night, but I don't know that much about their habits.

If you don't live by water, you probably will never such a sight in your own yard.

I would love to have that porch with a cold iced tea and a good book.

Reminds me of my father-in-laws house with raised porch across the woods...before they moved into that damn Condo on the lake.

Sounds fine to me, I love tree houses. Hadn't known about the mud tower thingys before. Interesting.

Your place is similar to ours. We're on a hill with a big 14 X 30 foot screened porch. I told hubby it reminds me of the tree house in the old Tarzan movies ... except we don't have an elevator run by an elephant or ceiling fans run by a chimp. We do have ceiling fans, swing, daybed (complete with twin mattress), tables, chairs, lounge, wicker furniture, patio pond for that bubbling water sound.

Our grandson "camped" out on the porch with one of his friends, they had a ball.

I wish we could put plexiglass or windows or something in for the winter so we could enjoy it out there then too, but that would cost a fortune.

So we only use it during warm weather.

I've never camped out there, but I sure have stayed up late listening to the night sounds...kinda freaky in the dark! But it's not the first time I've been out in the dark - deer hunting and on post in 'Nam!
