MUSHY'S MOOCHINGS: RAIN, RAIN, COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY

RAIN, RAIN, COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY

I woke this morning to the sound of rain – unbelievably heavy rain with no wind, no lightning, and, of course, no thunder. I immediately went to the back porch and sat there thanking God for it and watching it fall. You could almost hear the trees and grass sucking it up. It was wonderful indeed!

We are almost 14” behind in rain this year and this hour long down-pour will be a start in reducing that deficient. However, it needs to rain almost this hard for a full day or three before the ground gets back to what it needs to sustain the grass and flowers through the reminder of the summer and fall.

Soon Judy and Baylee (not shown) joined me and we just lay back and breathed in the cool fresh air for as long as it lasted. We have had 30 straight days of over 90-degree heat, but with the rain, I doubt we break the 1993 record today.

As soon as it ended, I fixed a ham, onion, jalapeño, and three-cheese omelette, with healthy dashes of Tennessee Sunshine hot sauce! That and a tall glass of milk got us rolling for the day!

Folks, it is good to be retired and to smell life as it gently passes by – come join us!

When you said you had RAIN, at first I figured that you had either MOVED, or it was the beginning of another memory!!!

I've only gotten 3/10ths inch in the last month. A tiny-little mile and a half NE of me has gotten an inch total in the last two days! All I get is enough to make it steamy!

I'll bet these lawn and garden dealers will have one hell of a fall sale, on all that unsold overhead they're normally so proud of, judging by the price...!

Oh we need rain here so bad!! Just a scant 100 miles north of us, folks are flooded out of their homes; go figure!

I am so looking forward to it, Mushy! I plan to enjoy my retirement thoroughly.

We haven't had rain since April so I have vicariously been enjoying yours from the pictures.

We had a tid bit of rain this afternoon, but our lakes and rivers are still full from the spring. Still can't go tubing because of it. You guys are livin' the good life, for sure. Wish you could bottle it.

yea, that's a great shot. If Judy ever starts a blog, she should use that as her header.

As you know, we were in drought to such a bad extent, our dams fell below 30 per cent capacity for the first time in decades - and then we got rain.

I smell your rain. I can hear it.

And I want to know more about the three-cheese omelette - I can smell that too!

Mushy, we finally had rain yesterday too. As you say around 30 days with no rain here at our house, our temps in triple digits for almost 2 weeks.

The rain was great yesterday and I'm thankful, but around here crops are beyond help now I think. Burned up. Pastures dead, ponds and creeks used for cattle to drink, dried up.

But this happens periodically in Tennessee as long-time residents know.

All my 'critters' were out enjoying the rain - squirrels, birds, turtles, rabbits. I've tried to keep water out for all of them.

Congrats on the rain! Judy looks so darned content on that porch that wish we had one right now. Just got 9/10ths" and then 1/4" of rain last night. Came down a little heavy to soak in but welcomed anyway.

Is that the view from your porch? It looks so relaxing. I love listening to the rain and feeling the cool breeze come over me.
